One Month and Counting

It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by already and thank goodness the winter with it. The annual Escarpment Project clean up is just one month away (Good Friday, April 19th) and this year’s team leaders are excited to get out and do some good with you on the largest hiking day of the year.

New Team Leaders:
Firstly, thanks to Jay Poel, who runs the City of Waterfalls, for stepping up as Team Leader at Albion Falls.
Thanks also to Allan Newell who will be heading up the team at Felker’s Falls. Without him this location would go untouched. This year we will be focusing on the top of the escarpment around Felker’s Creek.

New Locations:
We’ve added a new location in Dundas near Borer’s Falls (Rock Chapel). It is the area that needs the most attention this year. It is best to follow the map on the project page to get there. Here is the link: https://escarpmentproject.ca/project-rock-chapel/

Another new location is the Battlefield Creek area. Sherri Nash will be heading a team to clean up a mess that some campers left behind. https://escarpmentproject.ca/project-battlefield-creek/

Students:
As per usual any students participating will receive community service hours as long as they bring us their paperwork to sign. Our student volunteer coordinator Jaslyn Drage has been named Miss Volunteer Canada as well as Peach Festival Queen. She’s super awesome so feel free to congratulate her at the Volunteer Appreciation BBQ.

View & Purchase Art:
You will have the chance to browse through and purchase nature artwork from some fantastic local artists, LA Mabo  and Donna Ibing who also has some of her work on display at several galleries including Carnegie in Dundas.

Volunteer BBQ:
Country singer McKenzie Leigh Meyer who has performed at many music festivals across Ontario including; Canada’s Largest Rib Fest, Dundas Cactus Festival, The Mississauga Waterfront Festival and Haggersville Rocks will be providing live entertainment at the volunteer appreciation BBQ again this year.

We also welcome back Lococo’s, Roma Pizza, Maple Leaf Foods and Muskoka Brewery who will all be supplying some of the food and beverages.
